THE
SHOP DOCTOR GAVE A BOOST TO BASSETLAW!
As part of the Backing Bassetlaw campaign Bassetlaw District Council endorsed its commitment to support independent retailers and staged a series of special surgeries for Worksop and
Retford.
The programme covered four topics on different facets of marketing including injecting great customer service ideas into business, taking the temperature of advertising and promotions and a spoonful of visual merchandising medicine. Spread over two weeks in June and July 2010, four surgeries were held in the Assembly Rooms in Worksop Town Hall, from 6 to 8.30pm. 17 people from 10 businesses attended.
In an independent survey of delegates afterwards, reactions were very positive, with one business owner commenting;
“... full of practical help and ideas. Retailers don’t have mentors, so the Shop Doctor is ideal for them. What Diane does is vital...”
and another saying;
“...the Shop Doctor really made an impact for me. I’m really optimistic about the future of my business again now.”
Economic Development Manager, Robert Wilkinson from the council said, "These surgeries were ideal for our local businesses because they gave practical support to shop owners to improve their trade and marketing skills to meet the challenges of the future.”
Bassetlaw District Council’s Deputy Leader and portfolio holder for Community Prosperity, Keith Isard said, "The economic regeneration of Bassetlaw is a cornerstone of the Council’s plans for the next three years. The retail sector is of paramount importance and we want to help local shopkeepers ensure they are up to speed with the latest retail management techniques."
